Hermle Mainspring Barrel Numbers
Hermle mainspring barrels have numbers on their caps, which help identify the hole end spring inside the barrel.
In most cases, you must remove the barrel from the clock to see these numbers. The chart lists various cap numbers and the corresponding hole end springs found inside the barrels.
Check for Damage
After identifying the hole end spring size using the Hermle mainspring barrel number, locate it on the hole end mainspring chart to order a replacement.
If the mainspring needs replacement, inspect the barrel's teeth for damage caused by the spring's immense power when it broke. Additionally, check the next wheel up on the train, as its teeth might also be damaged. In such cases, replacing the entire movement may be the best option.
Get a New Movement Instead
To identify the movement, locate its number on the back plate. Look for a stamp on the brass plate itself, as the number won't appear on the clock case or accompanying paperwork. Once you have the number, visit the appropriate page to order a new clock movement.
When the mainspring breaks, the second wheel up from the barrel might have a bent arbor. Check this part carefully. If the arbor is bent, you’ll need to either straighten it or replace the wheel. Straightening it can be challenging, so replacing the entire unit may save time and effort.
